Angel brings a unique blend of academic and hands-on experience to her role as SPARC Research’s first Program Engineer—a position she has helped shape during her six years with the company. Her path to SPARC began in the classroom, teaching physics at Brigham Young University–Idaho, where she studied with an emphasis in astrophysics and was selected to serve as her graduating class’s convocation speaker. Angel’s current position at SPARC requires her to strike a balance between technical and programmatic responsibilities as she continues along a career development path with multiple leadership opportunities.

While at BYU–Idaho, Angel balanced her studies and research on Active Galactic Nuclei with a strong commitment to outreach. She managed the university’s observatory and planetarium, sharing the wonders of the night sky with students and the surrounding community, and co-founded the university’s Women in Physics Society to encourage and support other women in the field.

Outside of work, Angel enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, experimenting with Asian-inspired cooking, and playing and writing music on the guitar.

SPARC Vice President and Cumberland site manager Tom Moore, second from right, took part in the recent groundbreaking for a new multi-purpose service center and training complex at Laurel Highlands Council’s Camp Potomac in Oldtown, Maryland, which has served as a flagship camp for generations of local Scouts since 1946. Mr. Moore and SPARC are among a group of benefactors providing financial support for this project, which will significantly improve camp and expand opportunities for youth development in this rural, six-county area of far western Maryland and West Virginia. Mr. Moore serves as the volunteer summer camp program director for Camp Potomac’s “Scouts at Work” program where teenage youth can receive an immersive experience in potential professional and trades careers like engineering, robotics, law, aviation, welding, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. SPARC is proud to support Camp Potomac and the Scouts at Work program.

In this role, Sean is quickly becoming familiar with the policies and procedures that support operations in our manufacturing area. His prior experience at Design Integrated Technology (DIT) brings valuable insight and hands-on expertise, making him a strong asset as SPARC continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities.

Outside of work, Sean values time with family and personal pursuits that keep life balanced and fulfilling. He and his wife have been married for just over three years and have been together for more than eleven. Their household also includes two cats—brother and sister—who will be celebrating their twelfth birthdays this year.

An avid outdoor cook, Sean enjoys grilling and barbecuing, often putting his pellet smoker and PK grill to good use. He has played hockey for most of his life and currently competes in several local men’s league ice hockey teams. When he’s not on the ice, he enjoys watching hockey and football, tackling DIY home projects alongside his wife, and steadily improving his man cave and home gym during his spare time.

Sean brings the same enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork to his personal interests that he demonstrates each day at SPARC Research. Welcome to the team, Sean!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Mike Lewis, Design Engineer for SPARC Research. His unwavering commitment and exceptional service have been instrumental to the success of our company. Mike has worked for over 42 years in the aerospace industry. Although we will miss him, we wish him well in his retirement and are excited that he will continue to work with us as a consultant.

Laura Thompson began working at SPARC Research as a high school intern in 2019. After high school graduation, she worked full-time for SPARC as she took a gap year prior to starting college. Jason Bruggemann joined the company in 2020 as our 11th employee after graduating from Ohio State. Laura showed Jason the ropes of airbreathing engine analysis, flyout predictions and software development. They enjoyed working together and quickly learned that they shared many common interests outside of engineering. They began dating shortly after Laura’s gap year came to an end and she headed to Princeton to complete her degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering. In June of 2025, after Laura’s graduation, the two were married.

According to Jason, “Our friendship that was first developed at SPARC has only continued to grow and we were thrilled to get married at the end of June this year. We’re looking forward to many more happy years together.”

Congratulations, Laura and Jason! Your friends at SPARC Research have been blessed to watch the two of you grow both as individuals and as a couple during your time with us. We wish the two of you a lifetime of love and happiness!

At SPARC Research, we’re not just a team of colleagues—we’re a family. Today, we are thrilled to share some wonderful news that makes our workplace even more special. Two pairs of co-workers have recently gotten engaged, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate these beautiful milestones with them!

First, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to SPARC engineers, Taylor and Brian, who have found love amidst their busy professional lives. Their engagement has brought so much joy to our office, and we are excited to watch their journey unfold. Both Brian and Taylor began as interns at SPARC Research and their connection has been a shining example of teamwork and companionship, and we are all so thrilled for the next chapter in their lives.

In another exciting turn of events, SPARC engineer, Jason and former SPARC engineer, Laura, have also gotten engaged! Their bond has blossomed not only in the office but in their personal lives as well, proving that sometimes the best partnerships begin in the workplace. We wish them all the happiness in the world as they embark on this beautiful adventure together.

We feel incredibly fortunate to witness the joy and love these couples bring into our workplace. Their engagements are a testament to the power of connection, both professionally and personally. On behalf of everyone at SPARC Research, we send our warmest congratulations to Brian & Taylor and Jason & Laura—we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Here’s to love, laughter, and a bright future ahead! 🌟💍

SPARC Research is once again proud to have supported the annual Flip for the Fight Invitational. During the past 15 years of this program, participants have raised $110,000 for the Virginia Breast Cancer Research Center, the Anne Clark Dollard Research Foundation and the Step-Sisters organization in honor of those who have fought, who are fighting and who have lost their battle to this disease. Congratulations to all of the wonderful gymnastics programs who have participated over the years. More information about this worthy cause can be found on their website: https://gmsgymnastics.com/flip-for-the-fight-2024/
