SPARC Research is proud to announce the promotion of Dan Glanz to Director of Engineering Analysis.

Dan has consistently demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, outstanding leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence throughout his time at SPARC Research. His promotion reflects not only his significant contributions to our engineering programs, but also the trust and confidence he has earned from colleagues, customers, and company leadership.

As Director of Engineering Analysis, Dan will lead SPARC’s structural analysis efforts, helping guide technical strategy, mentor the next generation of engineers, and ensure the continued delivery of innovative, mission-focused solutions for our customers.

A recognized Subject Matter Expert in solid rocket motor nozzle analysis, Dan has played a key role in the design and structural analysis of numerous space and military solid rocket motor programs. He is the author of SPARC’s internal guidelines for Solid Rocket Motor Nozzle Analysis and has contributed extensive technical documentation supporting some of the nation’s most critical defense initiatives.

Those who work alongside Dan know him not only for his technical expertise but also for his willingness to mentor fellow engineers, share knowledge, and approach every challenge with humility and professionalism.
Dan’s commitment to service extends well beyond the workplace. A retired U.S. Army Captain, he served two deployments to Afghanistan as both a Civil Affairs Assistant Team Leader and Team Leader. His distinguished military career earned him two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart Medal, and the prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. The leadership, resilience, and dedication he demonstrated in uniform continue to define the example he sets for those around him at SPARC Research.

We are excited to see him continue making an even greater impact as Director of Engineering Analysis.”

Please join us in congratulating Dan on this well-deserved promotion and wishing him continued success as he helps lead SPARC Research into the future.

Angel brings a unique blend of academic and hands-on experience to her role as SPARC Research’s first Program Engineer—a position she has helped shape during her six years with the company. Her path to SPARC began in the classroom, teaching physics at Brigham Young University–Idaho, where she studied with an emphasis in astrophysics and was selected to serve as her graduating class’s convocation speaker. Angel’s current position at SPARC requires her to strike a balance between technical and programmatic responsibilities as she continues along a career development path with multiple leadership opportunities.

While at BYU–Idaho, Angel balanced her studies and research on Active Galactic Nuclei with a strong commitment to outreach. She managed the university’s observatory and planetarium, sharing the wonders of the night sky with students and the surrounding community, and co-founded the university’s Women in Physics Society to encourage and support other women in the field.

Outside of work, Angel enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, experimenting with Asian-inspired cooking, and playing and writing music on the guitar.

SPARC Vice President and Cumberland site manager Tom Moore, second from right, took part in the recent groundbreaking for a new multi-purpose service center and training complex at Laurel Highlands Council’s Camp Potomac in Oldtown, Maryland, which has served as a flagship camp for generations of local Scouts since 1946. Mr. Moore and SPARC are among a group of benefactors providing financial support for this project, which will significantly improve camp and expand opportunities for youth development in this rural, six-county area of far western Maryland and West Virginia. Mr. Moore serves as the volunteer summer camp program director for Camp Potomac’s “Scouts at Work” program where teenage youth can receive an immersive experience in potential professional and trades careers like engineering, robotics, law, aviation, welding, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. SPARC is proud to support Camp Potomac and the Scouts at Work program.

Sean Noone is SPARC Research’s newest team member, having recently joined the company as an Engineering Technician. In this role, Sean is quickly becoming familiar with the policies and procedures that support operations in our manufacturing area. His prior experience at Design Integrated Technology (DIT) brings valuable insight and hands-on expertise, making him a strong asset as SPARC continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities.

Outside of work, Sean values time with family and personal pursuits that keep life balanced and fulfilling. He and his wife have been married for just over three years and have been together for more than eleven. Their household also includes two cats—brother and sister—who will be celebrating their twelfth birthdays this year.

An avid outdoor cook, Sean enjoys grilling and barbecuing, often putting his pellet smoker and PK grill to good use. He has played hockey for most of his life and currently competes in several local men’s league ice hockey teams. When he’s not on the ice, he enjoys watching hockey and football, tackling DIY home projects alongside his wife, and steadily improving his man cave and home gym during his spare time.

Sean brings the same enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork to his personal interests that he demonstrates each day at SPARC Research. Welcome to the team, Sean!

[Warrenton, Virginia, October 1, 2025] SPARC Research, an AS9100 certified aerospace engineering services small business headquartered in Warrenton, Virginia, with additional offices in Cumberland, Maryland, today announced that it has secured a $30.44 million prime contract, — with an additional $3.45 million option, from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Aerospace Systems Directorate at Edwards Air Force Base, California (FA9300-25-C-6023) to manage the rapid design, development, and testing of an extended range 2.75-inch solid rocket motor. This 24-month prototype demonstration program is designed to address an urgent military need for the U.S. and allied nations.

Matthew Cornwell, SPARC President, said, “We are very honored to receive the largest contract in our company’s history from AFRL, and appreciative of the trust placed in the SPARC team to execute this important, quick-turn prototype demonstration effort for AFRL, the Department of War, the Government stakeholder team, and our allies. This award is emblematic of SPARC’s core values, focusing on customer, people, agility, and results, and continues our record of growth and stature in the rocket and missile propulsion engineering community.”

Work on this contract will be conducted in Warrenton, Virginia, Cumberland, Maryland and selected contractor facilities throughout the United States, — with expected completion by September 2027.
